The ongoing cost and activity of running a wind farm - scheduled service, repairs, spares, access, and the people who do it.
Operations and maintenance, always written O&M, covers everything that happens after commissioning: scheduled servicing, unscheduled repair, spare parts, technicians, site access, and the monitoring that decides what to do next. It is typically the largest controllable cost line in an operating wind farm, and unlike the wind resource it is a management variable rather than a given.
Contracting arrangements vary widely. A full-service agreement with the turbine manufacturer bundles maintenance with an availability warranty and transfers most risk to the supplier at a price. A self-perform model gives the owner control of cost and scheduling and puts the risk back on them. Many portfolios run both, which is one reason a single view across the fleet is harder to assemble than it sounds.
The operational objective is to move work from unplanned to planned. Every hour of unplanned downtime carries a premium in mobilization, lost production, and disruption to the rest of the schedule, so a program that converts emergent failures into campaign work is worth more than the same headcount deployed reactively.
This is the decision that performance and condition analysis is meant to support, not replace. The purpose of a ranked set of findings is to let an O&M planner sequence a finite crew against the work that returns the most, with the energy at stake attached to each item so that trade-offs are made in the same units the business is measured in.
