Wind Energy Engineer
What we do
OpenTurbine applies machine learning to the operational data wind farms already record. The platform builds a model of what each individual turbine should produce in the conditions it actually experiences, measures the real machine against it, and reports the difference as a ranked set of findings with the annual energy and revenue attached to each one.
Our customers are onshore wind farm operators and offshore portfolio owners, and the work runs from SCADA ingestion through per-turbine modeling to the findings an operations team plans around. Everyone here carries production responsibility across that whole path rather than a slice of it.
About this role
This role exists because the hardest part of the product is not the modeling, it is knowing what a result means on a real site. A statistically clean deviation can be a degrading bearing, a noise curtailment regime nobody documented, or an anemometer that has been reading two percent low since it was replaced.
You will be the person who can tell the difference, and who makes sure the platform can tell the difference the next time. That means working alongside the modeling team on how findings are classified, and alongside customers on how a finding becomes a work order.
What you'll do
- Review findings before they reach customers, and feed back what the classification missed.
- Define what evidence a finding must carry for an operations engineer to act on it.
- Work with customer teams on the operational side of onboarding: thresholds, routing, and close-out.
- Translate between wind engineering and machine learning, in both directions, on a team where neither side can assume the other's vocabulary.
- Support assessments directly, including the review sessions where findings are checked against known events.
- Keep the platform honest about its limits, including the cases where a deviation is structural and not recoverable.
What we're looking for
- 5+ years in wind energy engineering, performance analysis, or operations and maintenance on an operating fleet.
- Direct experience with SCADA data and with the reporting an operator actually produces from it.
- Working knowledge of turbine control, common failure modes, and how maintenance is planned and contracted.
- The ability to argue with a model's output on the evidence rather than on instinct, and to explain which one you are using.
- Comfortable working closely with engineers who do not share your background.
Nice to have
- Offshore experience, including how access constraints change a maintenance decision.
- Familiarity with the IEC 61400 series and with how availability warranties are structured.
- Experience with power curve verification, wake analysis, or energy yield assessment.

- Has been the person who had to decide whether a machine was worth climbing.
- Would rather say a finding is structural than let a customer chase it for a quarter.
- Works effectively on a small team where technical judgment, direct collaboration, and production ownership matter.
